For nearly 30 years, my work has encompassed research, teaching, consultancy and practice in evaluation. The particular fascination lies in working at the intersection of knowledge and action where evaluation operates.
A central question concerns how evaluation can fulfil its core promise of using knowledge to improve practice. Experience shows that individuals and organisations often follow action logics in which knowledge does not take priority.
Given the emancipatory and enlightening potential of evaluation, this challenge informs both my practical consultancy work and my engagement with intervention design, programme theory and impact orientation, and the professionalisation of evaluation.
Following a long academic career, including six years as Professor of Higher Education Didactics and Evaluation at the University of Giessen, independent consultancy in the field of evaluation has been my focus since 2021. My roles include co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Evaluation and former chair of the German Evaluation Society (DeGEval).
